According to official data, the number of Chinese tourists have significantly increased in 2017 and is expected to rise by over 40% this year. This is not a surprise, really. Tanzania is naturally endowed with scores of beauty and wonder.

So why is Tanzania a must-visit country?

Serengeti National Park, for one, is the flagship wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania. Nestled just beside it on its southern region is the ever-so-stunning Ngorongoro Crater, Africa’s Garden of Eden and the world’s largest inactive caldera. There are several international airports in Tanzania that cater to visitors from across the globe. Traveling is made easy as regional and international flights are easily available on a daily basis, and there are particular hubs that are suitable for each travel purpose. For example, if you’re visiting the northern safari circuit, Kilimanjaro Airport is the most ideal gateway for you. If you’re going south to visit, say, Selous Game Reserve, book flights to Dar es Salaam.

Flights from China to Tanzania are ample. Depending on your route and stopovers, the flying time can be as little as 10 hours and 48 minutes on a direct one-stop flight to more than 24 hours if you’re taking multiple-stop flights. Of course, duration and flight fares vary from time to time so it’s wise to check with your preferred airlines first.
Before covering the ways to get to Tanzania, you have to have a background on the different regions of the country first. This will come in handy later on.

• Northern Safari Circuit: Most of the more famous wildlife parks are within this circuit. This includes Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Eyasi and Lake Ndutu.
• Southern Safari Circuit: This is the more remote, untouched safari parks in the country. It covers Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha National Park, Mikumi National Park, and Saadani National Park
• Western Safari Circuit: A less popular route for tourists, this circuit is more of a visit to the primates. So if you’re in Tanzania and you want to meet chimpanzees, this is where you can go. Parks include Mahale Mountains National Park and Katavi National Park.
• Coastal Circuit: This covers the incredible stretch of white sand beaches in Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia.

As already mentioned, there are several airports in Tanzania. The main international hubs are:

• Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam. This is the main gateway for tourists planning to visit the southern safari circuit or begin their trip with a visit to the coastal region.
• Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Arusha. This airport is the closest hub to the popular northern safari circuit. It also offers several flights to and from DAR, ZNZ and even Nairobi in Kenya.
• Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) in Unguja Island, Zanzibar. This is the main airport in the Zanzibar archipelago and the perfect hub for those who are coming to visit the tropical islands of Tanzania.

From China, you can fly to Tanzania either on a direct one-stop route or a multiple-stop route. Flights can start from Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou or Shanghai.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To enter Tanzania, every visitor is required to have:

✔ a valid visa

✔ a passport which is valid for not less than six months

Upon entry and compliance of the said requirements, an officer will issue a pass with validity not exceeding three months on the first instance.

ALL ABOUT VISAS

There are 3 types of Visas available for tourists:

• Ordinary Visa: Single-entry visa that is valid for three (3) months only. Visa fee: $50
• Multiple Entry Visa: Visa issued for visitors who wish to visit frequently for leisure and holiday purposes. This may be issued for a period of 3, 6 or 12 months wherein the visa holder may be allowed to enter and re-enter the country provided that a single stay of the holder must not exceed 3 months. Visa fee: $100
• Transit Visa: Short-time visas granted to travelers who will visit Tanzania for only a short time. Validity for this type of visa is 14 days. A traveler must have onward tickets to another country, sufficient funds for subsistence and proof that he/she can be allowed entry to the next country. Visa fee: $30

Visas may be obtained at any Consulate Mission of the United Republic of Tanzania abroad or upon arrival at any designated entry hubs. Note, however, that visas on arrival are only single-entry and not multiple-entry.

• Namanga Entry Point (Tanzania-Kenya border point to the north)
