The Experience
Crater's Edge is a small luxury lodge on the eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. It opened in 2024 as the first lodge of The Wilderness Collection and sits among acacia trees about 1 km from the descent road to the crater floor, so morning game drives can be down on the floor soon after the gates open.
The rooms are raised tented suites with a fireplace, a free-standing bathtub and a private wooden deck with a spotting scope. Most of them look out over the crater rim. The main lodge has a lounge and library, a bar, indoor and outdoor dining, and fire pits on the veranda.
Meals are included, and the kitchen packs breakfast and lunch for full days in the crater. Besides crater game drives, you can walk in the highlands with a ranger or hike to Olmoti and Empakaai craters; book these ahead.
The camp is unfenced and elephants and other animals wander through it, so staff walk you to your room after dark. At about 2,300 m the nights are cold, so pack a warm layer.
