What the Tanzania low season is

The low season in northern Tanzania is the wetter part of the year: the short rains around November, and the long rains from about March to May. The parks stay open, the wildlife stays, and camps drop their rates to fill rooms. That is where these deals come from.

We run two private safaris at low-season rates, for travel in November 2026 and May 2027. Both cover the classic northern circuit, Tarangire, Central Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, with the same camps, the same Land Cruiser and the same kind of guiding we use in the high season. What changes is the price, and how many other vehicles are at the sighting when you get there.

Both are private: the vehicle and guide are only for your group of two to six travellers. The single supplement is US$325 on both, and the optional balloon flight over the Serengeti is US$550 per person.

What to expect in November and in May

November is the short-rains month. Showers tend to be short and fall in the afternoon, and the plains that were brown in October turn green quickly. The migrating herds are usually on the move south through the Serengeti towards the southern plains, where they calve early in the new year.

May is the end of the long rains. The country is at its greenest, the camps are quieter than they will be from June, and the herds are often in the central and western Serengeti. It can still rain hard some afternoons, so a light waterproof is worth packing.

In both months the resident wildlife is where it always is. Ngorongoro Crater holds its animals all year, Central Serengeti has lions, leopards and elephants every month, and Tarangire keeps its elephants, though they spread out more once there is water everywhere. We will not promise you a river crossing or a particular sighting in any month. What we can promise is a guide who knows where the animals were yesterday.

Why the price is lower, and what stays the same

The saving comes from the camps: Serian Tarangire Camp, Enkirari Wilderness Camp and Naserian Safari Camp all charge less outside the peak months. Nothing else on the safari is cut back.

  • Your own vehicle. A 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and Wi-Fi on board, for your group only, with no limit on game-drive mileage.
  • A private guide. A professional English-speaking driver-guide from our team in Arusha, with you from the first morning to the drop-off.
  • Proper lunches in the park. On the long days your guide sets up a table and a hot lunch, or a picnic out on the plains, with a glass of wine or beer.
  • Fees already paid. Park fees for Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the crater service fee, are in the price.

Thank you Gosheni and George!

We had an amazing time on our safari tour. We saw every animal you can think of, and everything went very smoothly. We felt safe, comfortable and never had a dull moment. A lot of the credit for this trip goes to our wonderful guide and driver George. George was energetic, knowledgeable, and very friendly. He went above and beyond bringing us hot meals to eat in the middle of national parks, and used his vast network of connections with other safari guides to find us constant animal encounters that we would have not otherwise seen. We got to experience the wild of the Tanzanian wildlife while still being comfortable and well-looked after. I would definitely recommend Gosheni to anyone looking to travel in Tanzania and specifically George!

An Unforgettable Tanzania Safari

Our safari in Tanzania was a trip of a lifetime, and it was all thanks to our incredible guide, Azaria. From the very first moment, Azaria made us feel completely safe, comfortable, and excited for the adventure ahead. His knowledge of the wildlife, landscapes, and local culture is truly mind-blowing. He has an unbelievable "superpower" for spotting animals that we would have completely missed, including the Big Five and rare bird species. Thanks to his deep understanding of animal behavior, he always positioned the jeep perfectly for the best photos and views, without ever disturbing the wildlife. Beyond being a brilliant guide, Azaria looked after every single detail of our trip, answered all our endless questions with a smile. If you are planning a safari in Tanzania, do yourself a huge favor take the Gosheni Safaris Africa tour and ask for Azaria. Thank you, Azaria, for an unforgettable journey!

An Unforgettable Safari with Michael and Gosheni

Our safari with Gosheni was absolutely incredible. This trip was the perfect way to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and it became one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives. Herman put together a fantastic itinerary for us. Starting in Serengeti, continuing to Ngorongoro, and finishing in Tarangire was the perfect route and made the whole journey flow beautifully. The biggest reason our safari was so exceptional, however, was our guide, Michael. Safari can sometimes involve unexpected or challenging situations, but thanks to his experience, knowledge, and professionalism, he handled everything with complete confidence and always made us feel safe. The entire trip was smooth from beginning to end. Michael's knowledge of the wildlife was truly impressive. He explained every animal we encountered in great detail, making each sighting even more special. Beyond that, his kindness, wisdom, and excellent driving skills made him an outstanding guide. I would love to come back to Tanzania one day, and when I do, I will definitely choose Gosheni again, and I sincerely hope to have Michael as my guide once more. He made this experience unforgettable.

Amazing experience

We just finished a 4 day safari tour with George as our guide. We had a wonderful experience. Gosheni took care of every detail and provided a luxury experience. They even brought to Serengeti some items I had left in the hotel in Arusha! We could not have asked for a better guide. George is very experienced and knowledgeable. We learned a lot from him. He knows Serengeti and Ngorongoro very well and took us to great places. He's very friendly and a great sense of humor. He's the best! I highly recommend Gosheni tours, and George for your guide.

An Incredible Safari Experience

We were very pleased with the company we chose for our 2-day jeep safari tour, both with our guide (Walter) and with the office staff member, Marline. With all the information and proper guidance, we had a wonderful safari experience. Our guide Walter, in particular, with his knowledge and experience, gave us the opportunity to observe almost all the wildlife. It would have been even better if the safari vehicles were a bit more comfortable (newer), as it was tiring due to the poor roads.
