6-Day Tanzania Low Season Safari

After breakfast your guide collects you from the lodge and you drive to Tarangire National Park for a full day of game driving.

At lunchtime your guide sets up a table in the park and serves a hot meal: soup, bread rolls, a main course and fruit salad, with a glass of wine, tea or coffee. You keep driving through the afternoon and reach Serian Tarangire Camp in the evening for dinner.

Tarangire sits slightly off the main safari route, and many itineraries give it only a few hours or skip it. It is known for its elephants, its baobabs and its birdlife, and a full day lets you get to the quieter parts of the park.

After breakfast you drive to the Serengeti and start game viewing as soon as you enter Central Serengeti. Lunch is a hot meal set up in the park, the same as in Tarangire, and the afternoon drive ends at Enkirari Wilderness Camp for dinner.

Central Serengeti, around the Seronera valley, holds resident wildlife all year: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo and the plains game they follow.

The Serengeti is part of one of the last great migration systems still intact. Herds of wildebeest and zebra move through it in an annual cycle driven by rain and grazing. In November they are usually moving south through the Serengeti, and in May they are often in the central and western areas. Your guide will know where they are that week.

A morning game drive in Central Serengeti, then lunch, then the drive east out of the park and up into the Ngorongoro highlands. You arrive at Naserian Safari Camp for dinner.

The Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Maasai Mara across the border in Kenya together protect one of the largest and most varied collections of wildlife on land.

After breakfast you drive down about 600 metres into Ngorongoro Crater. The crater floor holds forest, lakes and grassland, and more than 25,000 large animals live there. You have lunch by the lake, then climb back out in the afternoon and drive to Arusha, where the safari ends.

Ngorongoro is the largest unflooded and unbroken volcanic caldera in the world: about 20 kilometres across, 600 metres deep and 300 square kilometres in area. Lake Magadi on the crater floor often has flamingos, hippos and other water birds.
