4-day Nyungwe Forest safari itinerary
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our representative will meet you outside the arrivals section and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. The rest of the day is yours to settle in, unpack and rest after your travels.
Kigali has been part of Rwanda's history for a century. Founded in 1907 as a German settlement, it did not become the capital until Rwanda's independence in 1962, when it replaced the colonial seat of power in Butare. Your city tour, including the old quarter, the craft centres and the genocide memorial site, takes place tomorrow, along with the drive south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. This evening, enjoy dinner and a quiet night at your hotel before the days ahead.
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a City Tour of Kigali (Cost Included)
The history of Rwanda dates back centuries, Kigali has been a part of it for 100 years. Founded in 1907 as a German settlement, Kigali did not become the capital until Rwanda’s independence in 1962 when it replaced the colonial seat of power in Butare.
Visit the old Kigali and the craft centres then visit the genocide memorial site. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide; learn about other genocides in the world and how this country has dealt with that past. Tour more and see the new developments in Rwanda; the recovery has been incredible, a testament to humankind’s resilience. Then drive south for a visit of the historical towns of Nyanza and Butare. Visit the Nyanza Kings Palace and the Huye ethnographic museum.
Lunch enroute. Proceed to your lodge.
04h30: Start early for early morning forest nature walk in the park tracking Chimpanzees in the forest. This is the time to watch the forest's birdlife too. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy the canopy walk.
Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast at your lodge, you leave Nyungwe Forest National Park behind and begin the drive back to Kigali. The route takes you through Rwanda's green hills, with the forest gradually giving way to farmland and, later, to the outskirts of the capital.
On arrival in Kigali, you continue to the airport for your outbound flight. Flights departing after 1900Hrs are recommended, so you have time to travel at an unhurried pace. Lunch is included along the way. The cost of your flight is not included in the tour. If your flight leaves earlier in the day, this should be arranged in advance with your driver/guide.
This brings your four-day Rwanda adventure to a close, after three nights spent exploring Nyungwe's forests and their primates and birdlife.
