The Experience
Horombo Hut is the middle hut camp on Kilimanjaro's Marangu route, at about 3,700 m in open moorland. It is the largest of the route's three hut camps, with dormitory huts holding about 120 bunk beds, plus communal dining huts and basic shared toilets. Climbers stay here on the way up and again on the way down, and many spend an extra acclimatisation night with a day walk towards Mawenzi. Mattresses and pillows are provided, but climbers bring their own sleeping bags. The Marangu route is the only route on Kilimanjaro with hut accommodation instead of tents.
