The Experience
Mandara Hut is the first hut camp on Kilimanjaro's Marangu route, at about 2,700 m in the montane rainforest above Marangu Gate. Its dormitory huts hold about 60 bunk beds, with mattresses and pillows provided, solar lighting, communal dining huts, flush toilets and piped water from a mountain stream. Climbers reach it at the end of the first day, after a walk up through the forest. Sleeping bags are not supplied, so climbers bring their own. Marangu is the only route on the mountain with hut accommodation.
