The Experience
Karanga Valley Campsite, usually called Karanga Camp, is the public campsite in the Karanga Valley on the southern side of Kilimanjaro, at about 4,000 m. It sits in the alpine desert between the Barranco Wall and Barafu Camp, and is used as an acclimatisation stop on longer Machame, Lemosho and Umbwe itineraries. The walk in from Barranco is short but crosses several ridges and valleys, leaving the afternoon free to rest. The campsite has views up to Kibo, and climbers sleep in tents set up and supplied by their operator's crew.
