Shira Two Camp, often written Shira 2, is a public campsite on the Shira Plateau on Kilimanjaro's western side, at roughly 3,800 m in the heath and moorland zone. Machame route climbers reach it on their second day, after crossing a river gorge and climbing a steep, rocky ridge through heather. The open plateau gives climbers their first wide views of Kibo and, on clear days, of Mount Meru. As on all camping routes, climbers sleep in tents pitched by their operator's crew.
