Climbers reach it after scaling the Barranco Wall and crossing a series of ridges and valleys, a short day that is used for acclimatisation. It is an overnight stop on seven-day Machame itineraries and on the Lemosho and Umbwe routes before the final climb to Barafu Camp. Guides note that this extra night can make a real difference to acclimatisation and summit success. Accommodation is in tents pitched by the climbing crew.
