The Experience
Kitela Lodge is a small country-house lodge near Karatu in the foothills of the Ngorongoro highlands, run by Tanganyika Wilderness Camps. Its 20 colonial-style cottages, two of them interconnecting family units, look over a working coffee plantation and gardens towards the forested crater wall, with a waterfall in view. Each has a terrace or balcony, a fireplace and a bathroom with both bath and shower. There is a swimming pool, a massage cabin, a restaurant and lounge with a view terrace, a souvenir shop and Wi-Fi. Farm and coffee walks can be arranged before or after a crater day.
