3-day Serengeti safari itinerary
After breakfast at your accommodation, you will be driven to Central Serengeti. With your packed lunch boxed maximize the changes of viewing more wildlife by having en route game viewing while heading to the park.
Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park. A UNESCO world heritage site and recently proclaimed the 7th wonder of the world, Serengeti is famed for its annual migration where some six million hooves pound the open plains. Serengeti offers an exotic game-viewing experience in the whole of Africa giving you an up-close look of the animals you've only seen in National Geographic: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.
Today you will have full day game viewing in central Serengeti. Serengeti National Park is known for its healthy population of resident wildlife, particularly the "big five", named for the five most prized trophies taken by hunters. Evening drive back to the camp for evening leisure and overnight.
THE BIG FIVE “5”
Lion: the Serengeti is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species. More than 3,000 lions live in this ecosystem. African
Leopard: these reclusive predators are commonly seen in the Seronera region but are present throughout the national park with a population of around 1,000.
African Elephant: the herds are recovering from population lows in the 1980s caused by poaching and are largely located in the northern regions of the park.
African Buffalo: considered by many to be the most dangerous of the big five, reportedly causing the most hunter deaths, with wounded animals reported to ambush and attack pursuers.
Rhinoceros: this may refer to either black or white rhinoceros. Among big five game hunters, the black rhinoceros is preferred, although it is now critically endangered.
After an early breakfast, you set out for a morning of game viewing in the Serengeti. The early hours are often the most active, so keep your binoculars ready for whatever the plains may offer before the day warms up.
Later, you leave the park behind and drive to Arusha city, where this safari comes to an end. You will have breakfast, lunch and dinner today, with the evening meal taken in Arusha. If you are flying home, the drive continues on to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.
