After breakfast at camp, you set off for a full day of game drives across the Ndutu area, with a picnic lunch carried along so you can stay out on the plains through the middle of the day.
These are the short-grass plains where the wildebeest herds gather to calve, and your guide will read the morning's movements to put you in the right place. You may come across newborn calves finding their feet, wildebeest massing in numbers, and the predators that follow them. Lion, cheetah and hyena are all possible here at this time of year. Between sightings there is time to watch the plains themselves: giraffe browsing, elephants moving through, and the birdlife around the scattered acacia woodland. You return to camp in the late afternoon, with dinner and the night ahead of you before another day in Ndutu.
After breakfast at camp, you set off on another full day of game drives in the Ndutu area, with a picnic lunch packed for the plains. These open grasslands usually hold the wildebeest herds during the calving season, and the presence of so many newborn calves can draw predators close, so keep your binoculars ready and your camera within reach. Your guide will read the morning's tracks and choose routes that make the most of whatever is happening that day.
You stop for lunch under the open sky before continuing through the afternoon, when the light softens and the herds often move again. As evening approaches, you return to Lake Masek Tented Camp for dinner and a night's rest, ready for tomorrow's early start towards the Ngorongoro Crater.
