Overview

Mkomazi National Park Day Trip from Moshi

Mkomazi National Park lies on the Kenyan border, about two to two and a half hours from Moshi, beneath the Pare and Usambara mountains. Few visitors make it here, so you often have the park almost to yourself.

Mkomazi is best known for two conservation projects: a fenced sanctuary that protects black rhino, and a programme that breeds and releases African wild dogs, one of the continent's most endangered predators. Outside the sanctuary you drive through dry bush and open grassland with giraffe, zebra, eland, gerenuk and lesser kudu, and a long list of dry-country birds.

The trip starts and ends in Moshi, so it is best for travellers staying in Moshi, before or after a Kilimanjaro climb or a safari.
