Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda in one park: equatorial savannah beneath the Rwenzori Mountains, a string of explosion-crater lakes, tropical forest in the Kyambura Gorge, and the Kazinga Channel, whose banks host one of the greatest hippo concentrations in Africa alongside elephant herds and fishing villages. The boat cruise on the channel is the signature experience; the Ishasha sector in the south adds the park's famous fig-tree-climbing lions; and chimpanzees shriek in the sunken forest of Kyambura. With 600+ bird species, it is also one of the richest birding parks on the continent.
