About Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls is the Nile at its most violent: the world's longest river forced through a seven-metre cleft in the rift escarpment, detonating into a permanent thunder of spray. The boat safari upstream to the base of the falls (past hippo schools, giant crocodiles and drinking elephants) is Uganda's classic river journey; the hike to the top looks straight down the barrel. North of the river, Uganda's largest park rolls out borassus-palm savannah thick with giraffe, buffalo, lions and Uganda kob, while the Nile delta below the falls offers the country's best chance of a wild shoebill.
