About Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam is Tanzania's largest city and its main port on the Indian Ocean. Its international airport is the usual gateway for safaris in the south, Nyerere National Park and Ruaha, and for the short flight or ferry across to Zanzibar. With a few hours between connections, the Kivukoni fish market, the National Museum and the waterfront are worth a look. Travellers on a northern safari usually fly into Kilimanjaro instead and only pass through Dar on the way to or from the coast.
