About Mt. Meru

Mount Meru (4,566 m) rises directly over Arusha inside Arusha National Park and is Tanzania's second-highest peak, and many mountaineers' favourite. The three- to four-day Momella route climbs through giraffe- and buffalo-dotted foothills, cloud forest alive with colobus monkeys, and a dramatic knife-edge crater rim walk to Socialist Peak at dawn. Meru is a superb acclimatisation climb before Kilimanjaro, but it is also a rewarding objective in its own right, with an armed ranger escort and views across to Kili the entire way.
