About Mto Wa Mbu
Mto wa Mbu is the bustling village at the entrance to Lake Manyara National Park, where the road from Arusha meets the Rift Valley wall. Some 120 ethnic groups live side by side here, making it one of the most culturally diverse small towns in Africa. Guided village tours wander through banana plantations and rice paddies, visit carvers, painters and the local banana-beer brewery, and can be done on foot or by bicycle. It is an easy, worthwhile stop between Manyara and Ngorongoro.
