About Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve)

Nyerere National Park, carved from the legendary Selous Game Reserve in 2019, is one of Africa's largest protected areas, a vast wilderness of the Rufiji River's lakes, channels and borassus palm forests. Its scale keeps visitor numbers low and the experience wild. This is Tanzania's home of the boat safari: hippos and crocodiles at eye level, elephants swimming between islands, and superb fishing eagles. Walking safaris and fly camping add an edge few northern parks can offer, and wild dog sightings remain among the best on the continent.
